Why culture matters in the fight for democracy.
Mere om
In a Europe marked by war, polarisation, and democratic backsliding, the defence of democracy must go beyond military readiness. Culture is no longer just a passive reflection of society — it is an active battleground. This event explores how cultural institutions, artists, and civic actors can become central players in Europe’s democratic defence. What happens when culture is manipulated, repressed, or erased? As Denmark prepares for its EU Presidency in 2025, the time is ready to lead a European push to recognise culture not as a soft value, but as critical democratic infrastructure. From fostering social cohesion to protecting diversity and memory, culture must be placed at the heart of Europe's efforts to build democratic resilience.
